A evolution of the highly successful Douglas DC-9, the MD-83 continued the line of rear-engine medium range jet airliners. Featuring comfortable seating for up to 161 passengers in a five abreast single class layout, the cabin is very quiet due to the aft fuselage engine position. Many MD-83s are also equipped with integral airstairs allowing the use of remote airports with limited handling facilities.
